Istanbul Object

Hotel Italia – Simone Mannino – Mixer Art (Istanbul, 2013)

For Hotel Italia at Mixer Art during the 2013 Istanbul Biennial, Simone Mannino presented works from the series Istanbul Object, where memory, politics, and poetry converge into a bold visual language.

The series includes:

Senca’s Doors – six abstract paintings exploring thresholds and suspended passages;

A black-and-white oil on Pasolini’s Salò, reflecting on violence and bodily memory;

An asphalt stone dedicated to Giordano Bruno, a secular relic of intellectual resistance;

A sculpture of a Turkish girl running on a root, inspired by the Gezi Park protests, symbolizing rooted freedom in motion.

Through painting and sculpture, Mannino’s works become thresholds, relics, and bodies in motion, capturing Istanbul’s political and historical pulse in 2013 while resonating with the international scope of the Biennial.
